In addition to therapies for children and adolescents with ASD, we also offer a course for parents (Zurich Parent Training: Parenting on the Autism Spectrum, ZET-AS). The parenting course is based on the therapists' many years of experience and uses an explanatory model from current autism research, the "Bayesian brain" theory of autism (Pellicano & Burr, 2012, Haker et. al., 2016).
The "Bayesian brain" is a mathematical framework model that can be used to depict how the brain calculates predictions about the world from its prior knowledge and sensory impressions. People with autism make these calculations differently. In the parenting course, the model is explained simply and consequences are recorded so that autistic behaviour can be better understood and an autism-friendly environment can be created.
We evaluate the success of the therapy on the basis of questionnaires completed by the parents.
