Studies on the effect of animal-assisted therapies

Children with horses

Two animal-assisted psychotherapy studies are currently being conducted to provide scientific evidence of the positive effects of animal-assisted therapy. The studies are being conducted in collaboration with the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Animal-Assisted Interventions at the University of Basel and Lucerne under the direction of Prof. Karin Hediger and in cooperation with the Swiss Epilepsy Center Zurich. However, other therapists from all over Switzerland who have a trained dog and are interested in treatments with dogs in an individual or group setting are also welcome.

In addition to completing her first Master's thesis, Suzanne Martin, head psychologist at the Uster outpatient clinic of the KJPP Zurich, has started her doctorate under the motto: «We assume that animals strengthen self-confidence». Suzanne Martin currently conducts group therapy sessions for children and adolescents aged 9 to 17 who suffer from post-traumatic stress due to one or more traumatic experiences.
