Neurofeedback from reading areas in the brain

This study, conducted as part of the transdisciplinary research network NCCR Evolving Language, investigates whether and to what extent fMRI-based neurofeedback can support reading skills.

Neurofeedback training using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a neuroscientific method in which test subjects receive real-time feedback on their brain signals. This enables to exercise control over one's own brain signals and manage them. Through targeted neurofeedback control of reading areas and their connections in the brain, we aim to strengthen their functions and coordinated activity.

Initial results indicate that adults can use neurofeedback to regulate the activity of a region that is central to reading. These findings form an important foundation for further research into the development of new interventions for reading and spelling disorders (dyslexia).
