ScoringHero: Open-source sleep EEG scoring and visualization

How do we score and visualize sleep EEG recordings efficiently?

Manual sleep scoring of long-term EEG recordings is time-consuming and error-prone, yet remains the gold standard in sleep research and clinical practice. ScoringHero is a free, open-source application built to make this process faster, more transparent, and more flexible. It runs on Windows and macOS without any installation and is designed equally for researchers and clinicians who need a powerful yet accessible tool for EEG annotation and sleep analysis.

ScoringHero’s  key features include:

  1. Multi-channel EEG display with interactive filtering: View, filter, and zoom into any channel or epoch, with configurable amplitude scaling and a spectrogram, hypnogram, wavelet time-frequency panel, and periodogram all in one window.
  2. Sleep stage scoring and event annotation: Score epochs as Wake, N1, N2, N3, REM, or Inconclusive; mark up to 13 fully customizable event types (artefacts, sleep spindles, K-complexes, etc.) by drawing regions directly on the signal.

Automatic scoring and detection: Run automatic sleep staging, or automatic K-complex and spindle detection — all within the application, with results importable as editable scorings or events.
